Family Dental Care

Cavities and Fillings

Today our patients have several choices when it comes to selecting materials to fill cavities. Composite fillings or white fillings, which are the most popular choice. Amalgam or silver filings are not as common, but they can be a good choice in some circumstances.

Brushing

The American Dental Association recommends bushing your teeth at least twice a day. We recommend using a soft-bristled toothbrush and a good fluoride toothpaste.

Root Canal

Our office still offers root canals for those teeth that have become inflamed or infected. Root canals are done in usually completed in two parts:

  • On the first visit the tooth is cleaned and a temporary filling is put in place.
  • On the second visit the full restoration is completed with crown designed especially for you.

Deep Cleaning:

Periodontal disease is an infection of the teeth, gums and bones surrounding the teeth. It is caused by a build up of plaque. A deep cleaning twice a year prevents Gingivitis and Periodontitis.

Periodontal Disease and Gingivitis

Gingivitis: There are degrees of periodontal disease. The first degree is called gingivitis. Plaque builds up at the gum-line and causes the gum tissue to become irritated, swollen and red causing the gums to bleed.

Periodontitis: Gingivitis, untreated, can damage the bones and connective tissue surrounding your teeth. Pockets of food and plaque have formed below the gum-line. Our hygienists can help prevent any more damage and teach you how to improve your home dental care.

Advanced Periodontitis: At this point the bone supporting your teeth has become destroyed. Aggressive treatment is required to save your teeth any you may possibly need to have your teeth remove.
