When the nerve or pulp of your tooth becomes infected or inflamed, a Root Canal (also known as endodontic treatment) may be necessary. Several things can cause irritation to the nerve of the tooth such as deep decay, repeated dental procedures or trauma to the tooth, or a chip or crack in the enamel.

After a tooth has had a root canal, it is more brittle and the dentist may recommend crowning the tooth to give it additional support and strength.
